Resveratrol

The red-wine molecule that launched a thousand headlines.

Resveratrol is a polyphenol from grape skins and red wine. We grade Resveratrol C on evidence and C- for worth-it at about $20-35 per month.

C

Evidence

C-

Worth it

Typical cost: $20-35/month

What it does

Resveratrol is a polyphenol from grape skins and red wine. It activates sirtuins in animal models, which made it the original longevity hype molecule after early mouse studies.

What the research says

  • Activates sirtuin pathways in animals

Evidence: moderate. Animal mechanism is real; human translation has disappointed.

  • Extends human healthspan

Evidence: weak. No human trial has shown longevity or hard clinical outcomes.

  • May support muscle strength when combined with exercise

Evidence: emerging. One study of 30 adults 65-80: resveratrol plus exercise improved muscle strength, power, and fatigue resistance vs exercise alone. Small and unreplicated.

DRAFT: famous mechanism, poor human record; the gap between the two is the story.

What the experts say

Every position links to its source. We include skeptics alongside supporters.

  • David Sinclair

“1 gram of resveratrol (shaken into my homemade yogurt).”

Source, 2026-08-27 Takes 1 gram of resveratrol every morning, mixed into his yogurt, as stated in Lifespan.

  • Bryan Johnson

Source, 2026-03-24 Takes resveratrol daily for its potential mitochondrial function and calorie-restriction-mimicking effects; exact dose not specified.

  • Charles Brenner

Source, 2024-06-25 Skeptical of resveratrol hype; a podcast interview with him includes a segment explicitly devoted to debunking the myths around resveratrol.

Is it worth it?

C-

DRAFT: moderate cost for a human record that never arrived.

Typical cost

$20-35/month

Common form, not a brand recommendation

Dosage contextemerging

150 to 500 mg per day in trials; bioavailability is poor.

Safety notes
