Epithalon
A research tetrapeptide studied for telomerase and melatonin effects.
Epithalon (Epitalon) is a synthetic four-amino-acid peptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) modeled on a pineal-gland extract, studied for activating telomerase and restoring melatonin rhythms in aging. We grade Epithalon D on evidence and D for worth-it at about $60-150 per month.

What it does
Epithalon (Epitalon) is a synthetic four-amino-acid peptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) modeled on a pineal-gland extract, studied for activating telomerase and restoring melatonin rhythms in aging. It is a RESEARCH compound with no human approval anywhere; no randomized controlled trial in humans has tested its effects on telomeres or longevity.
What the research says
Activates telomerase in cell models
Evidence: emerging. Published in vitro and rodent data, nearly all from one research group (Khavinson), show telomerase activation and telomere preservation; no independent replication.
Restores melatonin secretion and circadian rhythm amplitude in older adults
Evidence: weak. Small Russian human studies reported restored melatonin rhythms; these were not Western-standard randomized trials.
Extends lifespan in animal models
Evidence: weak. Rodent studies from the same research group reported lifespan and healthspan effects; animal data does not establish human benefit.
Four decades of work exist but almost all of it comes from a single laboratory group with no independent replication, and there are zero published human randomized trials on telomere or longevity endpoints. A 2025 systematic review notes no formal pharmacokinetic study has ever been published in any species.
Is it worth it?
Gray-market research vials are expensive relative to the evidence: no human efficacy data, no safety trials, no regulated manufacturing. Spending on this is a bet on unreplicated single-group research.
Typical cost
$60-150/month
Common form, not a brand recommendation
Dosage contextno established dose
No validated human dose exists. Community protocols of 5-10 mg daily for 10-20 day cycles come from unvalidated sources, not trials.
Safety notes
NOT an approved drug in the US, UK, or Australia. In 2023 the FDA classified Epitalon as a Category 2 bulk substance, blocking US compounding pharmacies from preparing it. Human safety data are minimal: no formal toxicology or pharmacokinetic studies, and products sold online are unregulated for purity and sterility.
